ADOPT A RESCUED ANIMAL
ADOPT A RESCUE CAT/DOG
Adopting is a great way to give a dog or cat a second chance by providing a loving fur-ever home. All animals in our center come with a fully disclosed medical history, and are ready to join your family. They are vaccinated, microchipped, spayed/neutered, and have had preventative parasite treatments.
Love pets but cannot commit forever?
If you would like to care for an animal but you’re not in a position to adopt one, then fostering is ideal for you! By opening your home to foster an animal, you will make space at our center for other animals that need us. Some animals need a foster home for just a few weeks, some are looking for a more permanent solution (up to a year). Click here to visit our foster page.
To find the perfect animal for you, please complete this questionnaire, and our Adoption & Foster Coordinator will get back to you shortly!

Are you unsure about which animal to adopt? Read up here on our “foster-to-adopt” options.
We often have more animals available than listed on our website, so don’t worry if you don’t immediately find a match here. When you visit our shelter, our staff will introduce you to the animals and you will have time to get to know them. We will also ask you to join an adoption interview during which you ask any questions you may have.
You can also visit some of our rescue cats at our valued partner Ministry of Cat. Have a coffee, while casually meeting our cats there!

Adoption FAQs
You can visit any time during the opening hours of our shelter. However, we recommend scheduling an appointment to ensure that the Adoption/Foster Coordinator is available to speed up the process for you. When visiting as a “walk-in” (without appointment) we are happy to welcome you too and you will be able to visit our adoption area, but the Adoption/Foster Coordinator may not be available to meet you.
We will ask you to fill in an adoption or foster questionnaire, before your adoption/foster interview. To speed things up, you can send the questionnaire to us ahead of time, by filing out our online form.
At MOC, you are welcome to visit the cats first without an appointment. If you find a suitable candidate, you can fill in an application and the Adoption/Foster Coordinator will be in touch.
We are seeking loving homes, who provide animals with love, species appropriate enrichment, comfortable and hygienic living space as well as species-appropriate food. Animals might get sick and require more time and financial means for veterinary visits and care. The home should be able to provide both time and financial resources for the needs of the animal.
In addition, in regards to cats, we do not support outdoor options for cats due to severe dangers such as CAT MEAT risks, traffic accidents and dog attacks. Many dogs and humans kill cats in Cambodia, and we would not want your family to go through such an experience. Did you know? Indoor cats have a life expectancy of 15 years, while outdoor cats live only 2-5 years. Most of our rescues are young adults under the age of 3 years. This is because cats commonly don’t survive outdoors for much longer. Also, balcony falls are VERY common and therefore, balconies which cannot be secured from top to bottom, should not be accessible to cats.
Finally, you will be asked to fill in a questionnaire, as well as an agreement. We will also ask for a copy of your ID.
Nothing! Our adoption service is free of charge. Yet, please keep in mind that we spend between $100-$220 to rescue and rehabilitate each animal, including medical care, food, vaccinations, neutering, and more.
If you like what we do and want to help us help the next rescued animal, please consider donating any amount. It can be as little as 1 USD or as high as your imagination! Click here to make a donation.
Foster to adoption: Many people struggle to decide which animal is the right match. You do not need to decide right away which animal is your forever love. In fact, most animals don’t show their real personality in a shelter setting. Choose an animal – perhaps even one that does not “show well” in the shelter – and foster it for 2 weeks.
You will get to know its real personality and likely, both of you will fall in love with each other. Then, after 2 weeks, you can decide if you choose the right match. If so, we will arrange the adoption documents with you. If not, no problem! The first try is not always successful. Return the animal to us and see if you find a different match.

Adoption / Foster FAQs
You can visit any time during the opening hours of our ARC center.
If you have questions in advance, please feel free to call us or send us a message on Facebook.
Adoptions: We are looking for forever homes for each rescued animal. We understand that some of you may be in Cambodia short-term, and in this case you will need to be confident that you can take the animal with you when you leave. Please research relocation procedures and costs prior to committing to an adoption.
Fostering: For those who cannot commit to providing a forever home, we offer a foster program. Here, we are seeking short- and long-term caretakers, who can provide temporary homes. Depending on the animal, this may range from a few months up to years.
Many of our rescues have had traumatic experiences and slowly learned to (re)trust humans. Please do not break this trust by abandoning them! Such animals are only available for adoption and are not included in our foster program.
We encourage you to choose an animal by its personality, rather than its color, age, breed, and so forth. You are choosing a companion, not an accessory.
We want the best for our animals and, if deemed necessary, we may reject an adoption or foster application.
Yes! Generally, all animals available for adoption are healthy, vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. Those that are too young to be neutered, will be neutered free of charge once old enough.
We will pass on all the information we have about our rescues, including a behavioral assessment. If there are any permanent health issues, we will inform you prior to adoption. If you fall in love with an animal that is still in recovery, we can notify you when it has completed its treatments and is ready to go home with you.
Animals that are part of our foster program, may not have completed their treatments yet. Our experienced veterinarian will decide whether the animal is well enough to be in foster care, during ongoing treatments. In such a case, the foster caretaker is required to continue treatments and visit ARC for regular health check-ups of the animal.
Please note: To ensure kittens and puppies receive the best care after they are born, we only allow adoption once they are 3 months old or older. Young animals up to 1 year of age are available for adoption but are not part of our foster program.
Nothing! Our adoption service is free of charge.
Yet, please keep in mind that we spend between $100-$220 to rescue and rehabilitate each animal, including medical care, food, vaccinations, neutering, and more.
To provide perspective, when purchasing an animal at a pet shop, you will spend $300 – $1000 for the animal. Furthermore, you would spend the following costs:
Neutering: $80-250
Vaccination: $50-60
Microchip: $40
Initial health check: $15-25
Parasite treatment: $10-20
Total cost of purchasing a pet: $495-1,395.
Therefore, we encourage and greatly appreciate donations from those who adopt. You can ‘pay it forward’ to enable another animal to recover and find a new home. Click here to make a donation.
